    1. Clarification and Extraction of Design Requirements.

      Usage and Environmental Conditions

      • Operating Environment：Suitable for use even in tropical desert regions; temperature up to 50°C or higher

      • Substrate Materials：Steel (SS400) / Vulcanized rubber sheet

      • Primer: Used

      • Open Time：Approximately 1.5 times longer than the current product (≥ ** minutes at bench scale)

      Setting Target Performance and Substitute Properties

      • Adhesion Evaluation：Relative evaluation using a 180° peel test

      • Adhesion Strength：Equivalent to or higher than the current product (≥ ** N/inch)

      • Rubber Substrate：Vulcanized rubber formulated in-house for the specific rubber type currently in use

      • Solvent：CFC-free (no trichloroethylene)

      • Adhesive Base: Rubber type selected based on heat resistance requirements

Climbing Shoe sole SANOA

Background

The project was inspired by our CEO, Mr. Asano, who began climbing as a hobby. While trying to repair his worn climbing shoes, he realized that the rubber used in climbing shoe soles requires unique properties to provide friction and durability. Before SANOA was developed, climbing shoe soles in Japan were only available as imported products. Our goal was to create the first domestically produced resole product in Japan.

Development

Developing climbing shoe soles was by no means easy, as they require a high level of friction, stiffness for precise foot placement, and durability. Leveraging Maruni Industry’s over 70 years of expertise and dedication to rubber technology, we created the ultimate resole product. The development process included extensive collaboration with test climbers, ensuring that the soles met high standards of quality, safety, and comfort, resulting in a climbing shoe sole designed specifically for performance and reliability.
